The Bear Mattress is designed specifically for those with an active lifestyle. My wife and I slept on the Bear Mattress for a good 2 weeks. We liked it. It gave my wife comfy hugging feeling she likes with their memory foam variant, and the gel-infused layer kept me very cool at night. The post below contains our honest review on the mattress and its ratings for the top five features we believe are most important to know before making a mattress purchase: quality, cooling, motion transfer, support and value.
QUALITY – Materials & Construction
The Bear mattress has 3 separate layers. The top layer is a 1″ layer of graphite gel-infused memory foam, which claims to have 10,000 times better thermal conductivity than regular memory foam. The middle layer is actually 2 nearly identical layers (1” and 1.5”) of “Response” memory foam, which is like a memory foam with better bounciness. The bottom layer is the core support layer with a dense foam to help support different body types.
COOLING – Does it Sleep Hot?
The main issue I have had in the past with memory foam mattresses is the heat generated in the depression you make when you sleep. As a hot sleeper, this is a hot button issue for me. I found the Bear mattress did an excellent job at addressing this issue. The Graphite Gel Foam layer claims to keep you 7 times cooler than regular memory foam, and I believe it! No problems staying cool at night. And incidentally, they claim by regulating your body temperature at night improves circulation and blood flow, although, I probably wouldn’t stop taking your meds… but hey, it couldn’t hurt.
MOTION TRANSFER – How it Absorbs Impact
The Bear does have a great bounce to it, but not so much that it disturbs your partner from sleeping. Though it is a memory foam, its responsiveness is above average in its category.
SUPPORT – Spinal Alignment
My wife tends to like a softer/cushier mattress, while I like a medium-firm feel. The Bear mattress did a good job of satisfying both our likes, which gives it an advantage over some mattresses that are either too hard, or too soft. My wife slept comfortably on her side with adequate sinkage, which also allowed her to sleep on her stomach without swallowing her whole. My back-sleeping found comfortable lumbar and neck support, proving this mattress amenable to many different sleeping positions.
VALUE – Price & Performance
The value of the Bear mattress is great. It has the comfort and quality as majority of the top brand mattresses at a lower cost. The majority of the Queen mattresses that we have reviewed have been over $1,000, while the Queen Bear mattress comes in at $850.
Smell Dissipation – Our mattress took 2-3 days to completely get rid of the smell.
Firmness – We give this a 6 out of 10 when tested against other memory foam mattresses. Medium Firmness.
Company – The company was very easy to work with. Their customer service and trial periods are very good.
Reviews – The Bear mattress has over 800 reviews and has a 4.8 out of 5 star rating.
